Facebook Adds Relationship Complications

December 14, 2009

I remember when life was simple. I didn’t know about my friends boyfriends or their break ups until they told me. I didn’t have to see couple’s vomit inducing love posts to each other show up on my news feed, or, even more annoying, their public fights via status updates. Relationships used to be a private affair, yet now I have to be pestered about why my relationships aren’t made “Facebook Official” (because I don’t want people to know I’m with you, duh) and reminded that “It’s not real until it’s on Facebook!” (maybe not to you, but your not in my relationship so I don’t care). Facebook can be a fun way to avoid finishing a project for your Editing class, but when it comes to relationships, as far as I can tell, it’s just adding more problems. In this column, I look at the new issues Facebook has added to our already overloaded relationship problem plate: Facebook creates new issues.

With Love,
